How To Make Beginner Friendly Oven Mitts

Last week I posted about How To Make Easy Double-Sided Pot Holders, and using the same first 4 steps, I was able to make beginner friendly oven mitts!

Materials:

  • Cotton fabric squares (10” x 10”) x 2
  • Insul-Bright (10” x 10”)
  • Bias tape for loop (x”)
  • Bias tape for potholder edge (x”)
  • Oven Mitt Pattern

Steps:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 from my post on making quilting patterns for easy holders to create 2 quilted 10” x 10” squares
  2. Trace the oven mitt front and back (or left and right) patterns onto the squares
  3. Cut the oven mitt pattern (or trace around your hand with a 2-3″ gap)
  4. Pin around the oven mitt and sew along the edges ensuring NOT to sew along the bottom
  5. Create a bias tape loop
  6. Pin the loop and baste to the preferred area of your mitt
  7. Add double sided bias tape around the opening to enclose the edges
  8. Ready to use!

This is the 2nd project I was able to make from a thrifted curtain. Up next may be a runner and/or a skirt apron 🙂
