I like to think I got a lot of my creative spark from my mom. She’s crocheted ever since I could remember. Anything from doilies to warm weather accessories like scarves or ear bands, she even made the sweetest little vest for me when I was young.

Displaying this piece is so special to me because I’m not just hanging a handmade crocheted doily that my mom made, I’m displaying family history and a skill that was passed down within my family.
Her sister taught her how to crochet just by counting rows when they were younger – they didn’t have a written pattern to work from. My sister learned how to crochet from my mom and I learned how to crochet from my sister. I’m so proud to display her artwork in the center of my home.

I went to a local professional company, Smyrna Frame & Art Gallery, to have the piece professionally framed. I’ve worked with them in the past to stretch and frame an oil painting I got on vacation in Greece. They did a phenomenal job framing the painting at such an affordable price, so I trusted them to take great care of my mom’s crochet piece. It turned out even better than I expected.

In a time where pictures are the default way to preserve history, it brings me so much joy to showcase the talents and skills of my family members by displaying their work in my home.
